MySpace experimenting with interactive advertising
Social network MySpace has decided, together with SocialMedia.com to develop and make available on its pages, interactive online advertising, TechCrunch reports. New ads will ask the user information and then be able to use it more accurately target advertising to the Friends of the user.
For example, the banners will be a message that someone from the familiar user is going to look a movie or that your friends like this or that musical style.
It was expected that users would be more likely to respond to the new format of advertising than the usual banners. This will increase the share of social networks in the advertising market. While the social network accounts for only five percent of Internet advertising.
MySpace is one of the major Western social networks, it has over 100 million users and is available in 15 languages. In 2008, advertising revenues of MySpace and its main competitor, Facebook, was below analysts’ forecasts.
